Editorial

Thanks to all who have contributed to this issue. Articles always welcome
about a Group outing, holiday, book/theatre/film  review, hobby– anything in fact which will interest others.
The theme for next quarter is Collections. This was suggested by Pam and
started a discussion straightaway about what we collect, when and why we
began, how big it is and how stored. Will you please write about your
Collections be it coins, stamps, art and craftwork, china, frogs, elephants, theatre programmes, scent bottles, books, etc. etc.
A photo would be nice.
If you have an idea for a theme for the June issue, we would welcome it.

Send or hand articles and photos for the June issue to:
Shirley Jones, Mike Ward or myself.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR March 2010
One cold afternoon in January we held our first new members meeting of the year. During the course of the afternoon we had several ideas for new groups, one new group (Philosophy) was almost sorted out there and then, and other people showed an interest in volunteering in some way. This was a terrific start to a new year.
However, it became clear that some of our new members, especially those on their own, find open meetings rather daunting and although the two Jeans do a great job meeting and greeting people on their first visit we realized that it might help to have a team of  “Befrienders” at subsequent open meetings. If you think you could help in this way please contact me or any other member of the committee and we will take this forward.
For new members I cannot emphasise enough that joining groups, especially if you offer to help with administration, refreshments etc. really is the best way to get to know people in the U3A.
Finally I am delighted to be able to say that we now have a Vice Chair in the person of Carol Hipwood. I am looking forward to working closely with Carol over the coming months in this my last year as Chair.
Wishing you all a very Happy Easter and another year full of learning and pleasurable
activities.

Plant Sale
The Gardening Groups will be holding their usual Plant Sales on May 18th at the Addison Centre and June 2nd at the Ath.  Donations of plants would be most welcome, but please pot up and clearly label as people do like to know what they are buying.  All proceeds will go to the U3A General Fund.
